FamilyNote ("the App") is a private messaging app for families. We respect your privacy and collect only the minimum information necessary. This policy explains what information the App collects and how it is handled.
1. Information We Collect
The App collects and stores only the following:
Display name (nickname): used to identify your account. It does not need to be your real name.
Message content: text exchanged between family members. It is permanently and automatically deleted 24 hours after being sent.
Quick phrases: short, frequently used messages saved by the user.
Push notification token: a device identifier used to deliver notifications (only if notifications are enabled).
Hash of the account recovery code: used to restore an account after changing or reinstalling the device (only if the user generates one).
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Phone number, email address, or legal name
Location data
Contacts, photos, or other on-device data
Advertising or tracking identifiers
3. How We Use Information
Collected information is used solely to provide the family messaging features, deliver push notifications, and identify or recover accounts. We do not use it for advertising or sell data to third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google LLC) and Apple Push Notification service (APNs): to deliver push notifications. The notification token and message content are transmitted for delivery.
Data handling by these services is governed by their respective privacy policies.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Messages and invite codes: permanently deleted 24 hours after creation. No history is retained.
Account information (such as display name): retained while in use. You can discard the account information on your device using the "Reset (start over)" option in the App.
Notification tokens: deleted once they become invalid.
6. Children's Use
The App is primarily intended for communication between parents and their junior-high, high-school, and university-age children. A child can join only through an invite code issued by a parent. There is no location tracking or monitoring feature. For inquiries about, or requests to delete, a child's information, please contact us below.
7. Your Rights
You can delete (reset) your own account information from within the App. To review or delete stored information, please contact us using the details below.
8. Security
Communications are encrypted, and account recovery codes are stored as hashes. Authentication data on the device is stored in the secure storage provided by the operating system.
